Project Bible Day 57 How Good Are Your Seeds & Roots in God?
While before I begin with tonight’s message I want to first thank God, and his Word and of course the BibleGateway App on my cellphone. Over the past few days, I have thought a lot about this very subject. There has been two reasons behind this, during the latter part of December, my focus shifted towards my exams a lot and finishing up final assignments. It’s the college life boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen. In college a student can be pulled in various directions academically. Although I did spend time with God it wasn’t what I was used to. simply because I like to spend hours in his presence and not just 30 minutes a day. I really enjoy tithing my time for Him. Don’t get me wrong, I love my program and I am blessed with some good hearted classmates that show their talent on a daily basis. However like everyone else waiting for school to be out I welcomed the break from the daily grind and I’m sure my professors did as well. These last few days I have really taken stock of just how my faith in the master stood the test or to put in practical language I wanted to spiritually examine myself. Now that I have a few weeks off school I figure there’s no better time to check my spiritual attire than now.
2 Corinthians 13:5King James Version (KJV)
5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
The reason I welcome these days off of school is because it allows me to be still and quiet. It’s a time where I can remove my headphones and turn down the microphone. Time away from school for me is a time to reflect. To put it in words some of you may understand I’ll put it to you this way. Just because I’m on a break from school it doesn’t mean my studying stops. It only grows. By studying more of his Word what I’m really doing is denying self and letting Christ who is within me in increase.
John 3:28-30King James Version (KJV)
28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.
29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
That’s what denying self is all about. Over the past few days the real reason I wanted to examine to see whether I was in in the faith or not is because this week before I laid my head down to rest. I turned on my audio Bible. Thanks BibleGateway for the app. It only took a few moments of stillness for my brain to take in the parable of the sower.
Matthew 13:1-8King James Version (KJV)
13 The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.
2 And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.
3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;
4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:
5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:
6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:
8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.
Matthew 13:18-23 King James Version (KJV)
18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.
19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.
20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;
21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.
22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
Earlier in my life I went through the different phases of faith. I searched, I searched and I searched no matter how hard I tried as a child I could never recieve good soil to grow my faith. Rather than explain this story to you again, I talked about this very issue in a previous post. I will post the link to this blog post so that you will begin to grasp an understanding about what’s going on.
