Project Bible Day 365 Day 56 Food Truck Frenzy
The first week of classes are complete. As I setback this entire week wondering to myself what am I going to write about and how can I relate that to a biblical perspective? The last four days I’ve had some ideas that have had reoccurring themes. Such as so today in Sodom and Gomorrah this happened or other titles such as Christian uniforms where are they now? However there is one idea that must be discussed first and foremost. The idea of food trucks on college campuses. Now you may think to yourself as the reader of this blog how in the world thus this subject relate to the Bible? This is the kind of question I’m going to answer today. The first week in college is the toughest. the reason I say that is because the first week of college has a lot to do with time management. Time management in reference to getting to class on time, taking notes that are clear and concise within the time frame of the class giving yourself enough time to get from one class to another without being considered late. Another aspect of college is making sure you read your timetable properly so that you don’t show up for class 3 hours later than it was originally scheduled for. That happened to me this week.
What else happened to me this week is unhealthy food habits. What I mean by that is college kids in this generation are going to and fro around the campus without really doing anything they’re running from place to place trying to get from point A to point B because it all comes back to proper time management’s own efforts to save time our schools cafeterias have set up a system to offer fast food but the fast food isn’t necessarily the best .
1 Corinthians 6:19-20King James Version (KJV)
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
I’ve had the opportunity to have consumed fast food four times this week and I feel like a big greasy hamburger. Again it comes down to time management. So today the student government body hired a company food trucks to sit out by the school’s pond and when going to lunch today instead of choosing a sandwich the cafe ladies told me to go to the food truck. After eating the pizza I immediately felt guilty because I didn’t get the original sandwich that I wanted to eat. Again time management becomes a factor. Time management in college is a recurring theme. There is time management as it relates to in class assignments and deadline there’s time management with in regards to exam week. Time management also comes into play when preparing food to eat. As I was standing out by the Boston pizza food truck today I began to see a variety of people lining up for different items of food and I began to think to myself where have I seen this thing before? Then it came to me in an instant the food truck phenomenon can be blamed on the ice cream man and his bell informing little children that he was in the area.
Galatians 6:7-8King James Version (KJV)
7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
That’s right I’m blaming the food truck frenzy on the ice cream man and his bell. However there’s more to it than that. I’m extremely worried about the health of students today and the food choices they have here to choose from. Has this generation of students ever heard of a salad or sandwich or the more cost-effective mode of eating which is bringing your own lunch. I tell you the truth on campus students can get food around the clock on campus we have Pita Pit, Tim Hortons , Pizza Pizza, Asian Style Stir Fry, Poutine Palace as well as three food truck lined up outside the school’s pond every Thursday. Somehow a ham and cheese sandwich and a side salad has gotten lost in the shuffle. Students are not allowed to take peanut butter sandwiches to school in fear that another student might be allergic. That makes a lot of sense because if the student doesn’t die from allergies then he’ll die from the fast food grease he or she eats during the week. See the point in getting at? We need to get our bodies conditioned to remain healthy. Healthy is happy. What does the Bible say about eating properly?
Acts 10:15King James Version (KJV)
15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
As people and as Christians we have choices to make. We can’t sue a fast food chain based on the premise that we get high blood pressure. God gives us a brain to think on doing the small stuff and he will take care of the big stuff. Are bodies are like cars, if we put the wrong kind of food in our bodies, it’s not going to run well. I know this because of Daniel’s 10 day vegetable and fruit consumption.
