Deadly & Desensitized

“Awake All Ye That Slumber.”

To the news story that never aired on television but won a classroom award for the best script. How does something like happen?  Tonight’s devotional is dedicated to my former television professor and of course to on1600e of my  good friends Mr. Adam. Don’t worry folks and friends this is isn’t a rant about my dislike about editing with Adobe Premiere. I mean, I do but that’s besides the point….

Project Bible 365 Day 27: Deadly and Desensitized

The idea for this devotional came about after reading one of my friends blogs about the movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. I am familiar with the first movie so I thought I would check out the trailer for the second movie.  After watching the trailer I was disgusted because it deals with absence sexual references by the older generation of women and of a course a wedding.  I began to think to myself in quiet would Jesus watch this movie with me? The answer would be no. So my decision to buy the two movies from the video store was settled. I wouldn’t waste my movie on anything that is unpleasing in his sight.

The other day, I prayed openly to God to ask him for a message for an upcoming blog post.  He gave me one word, desensitized.  The definition of desensitized means:

  • make (someone) less likely to feel shock or distress at scenes of cruelty, violence, or suffering by overexposure to such images.
“people who view such movies become desensitized to violence”
  • free (someone) from a phobia or neurosis by gradually exposing the person to the thing that is feared.

So to get confirmation on the subject  that was indeed the message he wanted me to discuss about, I used my highly qualified, overly expensive  journalism skills to investigate the matter further. When that didn’t work I went to YouTube and watched  a scene from a beloved children’s movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. In this particular scene the character known as Mike TV is  playing a violent video game.

maxresdefault (1) Can you guess the influences that particular game might have on him? Mike TV (modern day) Today I wanted to talk to all of you about video  games and television shows. Without further procrastination here is the news script that won a skillets award but never officially aired on the newscast.

arno-wallpaper-1366x768.jpgThe setting is 18 century France. The country is facing social  and political unrest. People are crying in the streets for food. Meanwhile the same people are being controlled by their countries monarchs and  governments. The creators of Assassins Creed Unity recall the events of the french revolution.  In this game you take on the role of Arno Dorian as he joins the brotherhood to bring about justice. You must choose your battles. In this game will you be captive or conqueror?

The more I  thought about the more I quickly began to realize that as a nation as a world we becoming desensitized. For instance look at the shows people are watching. CSI Miami,Criminal Minds,Dexter, and The Walking Dead

Those are just four television shows to name of, their is a variety of others.

Violence, VioleThe-Waltons-001nce,   Violence! Whatever happened to shows that are wholesome and decent they fell by the waist side because this world is evil continually.   People ask me on me on a regular basis why is their such bad things going on the world? I say to them, take a look at what your watching? The whole reason I wanted to write a devotional regarding this matter is to follow scripture.

Ephesians 5:11King James Version (KJV)

11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

So than  the question than becomes should Christians watch TV? The answer is yes with caution. What should Christians watch on television?

Philippians 4:8King James Version (KJV)

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

How did the youth of today become desensitized?

The youth of today became desensitized simply by giving their minds over to movies like Harry Potter, The Hunger Games,  and Percy Jackson and The Olympians, and just in case anybody thinks I’m bad guy for talking about these movies in this manor let me remind you what I’m doing.

Ephesians 5:11King James Version (KJV)

11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

Psalms 101:3

“I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.”

We as Christians should never feel pressured to watch something that does not please God, and the reason is because we are not to conform to the world.  I have battled peer pressure, personal or professional  image my entire life. I’m here today to tell you it’s OKAY not to be liked by everyone in the room.

2 Corinthians 6:17King James Version (KJV)

17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

5284480-origAt the end of the day, if you’re a Christian and a program doesn’t appeal to your moral code than simply shut it off. It’s okay you won’t hurt anybody, but hey it might save you a couple bucks if you cut your cable.  Keep your pockets filled longer by freeing your mind and eliminating the poison from your home and save your soul.

This concludes tonight’s message on Project Bible 365 Day 27 Deadly & Desensitized
