Project Bible 365 Day (21) Oh Canada Where Have All The Churches Gone? This devotional will likely get me in some trouble with Canadian church goers. This message was brought to my attention by some close family members. If I have been asked once, I have been asked 100 times and than some the same question. Why do you go to church in the U.S.? Well tonight with a lot of help from the Lord, I intent to answer my critics and in doing so, I pray that God will shut the mouths of roaring lions. Going to church for me on a personal level has been very therapeutic.
After all, the Bible does say that Jesus is a great counselor. Who better for guidance than Jesus right?
Isaiah 9:6King James Version (KJV)
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. I’ve been going to Church for more than 20 years. Why? I took advice from my grandma of course. “Always Trust God Anthony.” Four words, that always stuck with me. My grandma was the first person to ever walk me into a church.
She felt that I needed a strong relationship with God. Her theory was based on the fact that I had a physical disability. She believed and if I had faith in God than I could rise above any disability that comes my way. My grandmothers intentions were wonderful because one day I did rise from the ashes and escape the stereotypes of being labeled a” crippled.” In all honesty though there is no way I could have done it on my own.
From my grandmother’s point of view I could see why having faith is impo
rtant. Her teaching early on in my life fulfilled a scripture to be true.
Proverbs 22:6King James Version (KJV)
6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Her death in March of 1999 would fulfill a scripture promise as well…
Her passing on also gave me a clear indication of a few other scripture fulfillment’s.I never openly discussed this with anybody but I feel the way to shake people up is give them the truth.
After my grandmother’s passing I noticed that everyone just kind of went their own way in my family. Once a family united by their faith was now torn apart. Everyone was miserable… After my grandmother’s death, no one talked to each other. There was constant bickering over money and it sickened me. .
I had just lost the only person who I loved more than my own life and yet two weeks after the funeral the bickering and dividing of money began. There were all like sharks waiting for blood in the water.
2 Thessalonians 2:2-3King James Version (KJV)
2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
One death in the family at the time, caused a lot of chaos. My family members once devoted Catholics ran away from Church.
2 Timothy 3:1-5King James Version (KJV)
3 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
I however kept going to Church and the reason I went to Church is the same reason I still go today. I want to see my grandmother’s face again. I want to eat with her at the marriage supper of the Lamb.
Back to the question at hand. Why do I attend Church in the U.S.? The short answer is I got fed up with the churches in Canada, they are consumed by a gathering place not for the gospel to be heard and preached but rather they give Canadian coffee shops and donuts a higher standing than the word of God. Canadian Churches have given themselves to being a place social engagement conversation.
I have been too enough coffee and donut half time show churches and I wanted the real church once and for all. It is funny though because even in the Bible there is church that stands out and pleases God. The church of Philadelphia.
Revelation 3:7-13King James Version (KJV)
7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;
8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.
9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.
10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
The next question I often get from family members and friends is what’s wrong with the churches in this country? They’re many thing wrong.
I can write a small list
- No Blood preaching.
- No Power of the Holy Ghost Falling
- No Preaching on Living Free From Sin.
- No Preaching Hell
- No Preaching The Amour of God
- No Preaching of Tithing.
- No Preaching of Healing or Miracles. The way I see it, is that Canada can stick to their coffee and donut shop churches and weekend rituals to satisfy a guilty mind which occurred during the week. I have news for you Mr. Benjamin, if you were looking at girls on the internet or in filthy magazines you should feel guilty.
Saying that no one can live free from sin is ridiculous. Jesus would have never said to his disciples be perfect if it was not possible.
To sum up, “what is the point of a well that has no water in it. In the same respect. What good is a church if there is not the power of God in them?”
This Concludes tonight’s message on Project Bible 365 Day (21) Oh, Canada Where Have All The Churches Gone?
