The Yearbook: Don’t Look Back, Project Bible 365 (Day 14)

What does the yearbook mean to you?

We have all  had one or more in our lifetime but what does it mean to the  middle or high schooler to be in one? If you make the pages of a yearbook does it mean your popular? How many achievements are listed in your yearbook and what do those same achievements mean to you now? I tend to often reflect on these questions and more  but it goes deeper than just  a yearbook.  The year is 2016 amd we have a virtual yearbook on a very popular social media site. It’s often said that this vastly popular website alrtr4c0uzlowspeple  to connect with forgotton hoz.jpgigh school friends and the tiping point that puts it into perspective for a lot of people is a connection with relatives in other countries or states. At the time, it may seem cool to have such connections. However Facebook is the devils tool.
What the man behind the curtain doesn’t tell you about Facebook is this,

Facebook has a way of destroying people’s lives. How you may ask? By comparing yourself to others. Often times as people who have facebook the users tend to connect with people they haven’t seen from high school in 20 + years. That’s where comparing yourself to others comes in. Don’t be concerned with what others have and you might  not have. Who cares if you don’t have a stretch limo or own a fast food chain. Do Not covet anything. Now what doees this have to do with not looking back to your past? There’s certain story in the Bible about a  man named Lot. Does anybody here remember his wife?  In the time of Soddom and Gomorrah the earth was filled with plenty of evil. The  population lived by the motto, I want, I want, I want.  Don’t worry when I say looking back to the past is a bad thing, I am not talking about the Zac Morris phone or school mascots.

sdgGenesis 18:20-32King James Version (KJV)

20 And the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;

21 I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.

22 And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the Lord.

23 And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?

24 Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?img-slide4

25 That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

26 And the Lord said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.

27 And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes:

28 Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.

29 And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty’s sake. Genesis_19.156125829_std

30
And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.

31 And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto theLord: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty’s sake.

32 And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.

Now God gave Abraham a promise that Lot and his family could be spared the coming doom. God sent two angels to guide Lot and his family but God gave Lot’s one opportunity and in order to be spared they were advised not to look back because they would be consumed and counted among those doomed. Lot and his family were promised safe passage and all but one survived. Lot’s wife looked back behind her.

She disobeyed a commandment of God. In life it’s always very important to look ahead not behind. In life it’s important not to dwell the should of, could of moments and focus on now and present time.

It’s your time in the present that will  impact  all of your tomorrows.  As Children of God, we are called to be the salt of the earth, not a pilar of salt. Screenshot_2013-02-25-18-24-25

A word of reminder: “If your past calls don’t answer it because it was nothing new to say…”

If your own yearbook doesn’t define you why would you let your past define you move forward with life.
