I’ve realized through a series of circumstances that there are many people who like to create goals for themselves. There are many people that create lists for themselves. Each person that seems to fit in this category has what I like to call…..
THE BUCKET LIST SYNDROME. Many people who have lists such as these fit into three different categories. 1. You have a man or women who is a wild eyed dreamer who wishes to become rich but has no ambition to work hard by the sweat of their brow to earn what they work for. 2.The second group of these same people can often be found listening to the wrong people. Many people these live in a era where please and thank you are thrown out the window. They live a world to which they have created for themselves. In this fictional world, that they live in they are their own personal mayor. For an example of this, all I have to say is two words…. Verruca Salt. Just who is Verruca Salt?
The third person(s) in this category would be considered to always want prosperity. When it comes to a faith point of view. Prosperity preaching is the most dangerous kind of preaching. If some preacher in your church explains that you can have your Best Life Now they are lying. There is no such thing as having you’re best life now. That doctrine does not apply to the true Christians of today, because we as believers are not supposed to live for the world. We are simply suppose to live in it. Not live for it. If you have a preacher that preaches health, wealth and all the rest leads to having the absolute best, than I seriously doubt that preachers ability to understand the true Bible. I seriously doubt that the preacher is listening to the still small voice that is of God. The idea that Christians can have their best life now is ridiculous! Has anybody ever taken the time to study the crusades or Foxes book of Martyrs? The Crusades were anything but pleasant.
They were not all pleasant. It was a brutal time, and with that being said, I want to say this to all the prosperity preachers out there. Bible Study is important and your mundane preaching of wealth which leads to happiness is exactly like the parable of the tax collector and the pharisee. Now why would I make such claims? I would make such a claim because if you have a preacher who is teaching his members to live for the now, then he is reading the wrong book. It must be understood, that the Bible is NOT a restaurant menu, where you pick and choose what to follow.
Each preacher that preaches this doctrine is in danger. In danger of receiving judgement. The reason why is because these “men of God” need to be preaching the complete truth. So what if scares little Susie Thompson in the front row. Sometimes people need fear put in them so that they could see the error of their ways. With all this being said, if you are going to preach judgement you have to preach mercy. You have to preach the cross. Without the cross, what would the Bible mean to you then?
These same preachers are successful because they are in bond to the enemy. They preach to live for now, and that’s all they will ever get. In the same way the pharisee spoke a loud to God thanking him, that he wasn’t like all the others. What’s wrong with others??? I’m one of the others.
Jesus taught this parable in the Gospel of Luke Chapter 18.
Luke 18:9-14King James Version (KJV)
9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
Do NOT BOAST of yourself today, because what you have today could be burned away tomorrow… If you make a list do them in secret. Just make sure to include God on your lists. If you don’t remember than maybe one day when you want God, he won’t hear you.
If yourself as a person learns to not stick by lists and simply live by God’s Word, you will have the humility and not need lists of achievements to define who you are. I see it everyday. People are making lists for goals of achievements. Some make sense and some are just well let’s just say ludicrous.
This idea of having wealth now happened in the 1920’s and just nine short years later in the month of October the stock market crashed. men and women put too much trust in them, and hundreds of people lost everything they owned. Many times over we as a people and as a nation have gone through recessions Although we have never experienced anything quite like that, it really made a profound statement where men and women were putting their trust.
The reason prosperity preaching is dangerous is because it takes me back to a time where I once read in a book that a minster who preached that Gospel didn’t succeed in fulfilling the great commission. Instead he preached a gospel that saw no one reach heaven. In fact some of the people in his church rose up against him for not preaching about the rapture. One of the members of the church presented him with a empty bible. The reason why is because every time the Deacon went home he tore out Scripture from his Bible that the minister said had no importance…. Sunday after Sunday, the Deacon did this, and by the end of it, there was nothing left of the Bible except the front and back covers.
I’m not saying that making lists are bad, I’m simply stating that it depends what you put on your list. That is what you value. Having lists are important, they help people prioritize their life. Having lists are great when you want to get chores around the house done. However in truth the only list that everybody should have that is important to everybody’s life is a grocery list. That’s when lists have value for every home. I speak passionately about this topic because I do was a man with a list. My list that I had isn’t the same one it was 15 years ago. My list these days isn’t even the same one I had a year ago. That is because of rapid change and of course different priorities come into play. However the main reason, my list that I had when I was 22 isn’t the same one that it is now is simply because of God.
These days, the only thing on my list to accomplish these days is simply trying to reach people from all around the globe so that they may find my stories and or experiences intriguing and interesting enough that they too can begin to read the Bible for themselves. If I can inspire people through my experiences through my writings than no matter how much cash flow I have in the bank my constant concern will be the state of the church.
Here’s is a trailer for the movie the List….
